Student Drop Off Safety Procedures

Posted Date: 01/21/26 (11:28 AM)

Dear Vaughn Families,

As a quick and friendly reminder, I want to review our morning student drop off procedures. These routines are in place to keep all students safe during a very busy and active time of day and we truly appreciate your partnership and patience.

During the drop-off line:
We strongly encourage students to remain seated when the vehicle is in motion. For safety reasons, please help your child avoid leaning out windows or moving around in the car while in the drop-off line.

Students must remain in the vehicle until a Vaughn staff member opens the car door. Please do not allow your child to exit the vehicle on their own.
We operate two lines of moving cars and staff carefully coordinate traffic flow using walkie talkies. At times, cars may move unexpectedly while staff are communicating, even when it might appear that the line has stopped. For this reason, it is very important that students wait for a Vaughn staff member to open the car door before exiting the vehicle.

If you need to exit your vehicle (which we do not encourage) to help your child out of the car, please stand with your child next to your car and wait for a Vaughn staff member to come to your child. Please do not walk your student to the sidewalk. Staff members are actively monitoring traffic and know when it is safe for a student to cross toward the sidewalk. Even if it may look “safe” in the moment, we ask that parents not make this decision independently.

These reminders help prevent close calls and ensure that all students arrive at school safely. Thank you for helping us keep our drop off process safe for everyone.

If you have any questions or thoughts, you can email me at demontek@psd401.net or call our front office at 253-530-4700.

Sincerely,
Kelli
